My name is Paula Stewart. I'm the new school counselor for Doe Elementary.
Some families may remember me from my eight years at the Health Department. I met many of your kids when they were newborns. I can't believe how they've grown! I will be at Doe this year on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If you need to contact me, please call me at Doe on Tuesday or Thursday OR call me on Monday, Wednesday or Friday at 727-8512.
I will be working with kids individually and in their classrooms. I will continue the state mandated "Talking about Touching" curriculum for kids in grades 1-3. Kids in kindergarten will learn about safe touches from Happy Bear. Happy Bear is a very popular program that comes to us from the Children's Advocacy Center. Happy Bear teaches young children to ask for help from an adult if someone touches them in an unsafe way.
I will be working with our 6th grade students on careers. They will have opportunities to use the Tennessee Career Information System (TCIS)to investigate careers that are of interest to them.
If you have a suggestion for a classroom guidance lesson please let me know. I appreciate suggestions from parents and value your input.
I work with individual students whenever there is a need. Students may be referred by a teacher or parent, or they can self refer at any time. Some reasons a child might benefit from counseling are: divorce, family illness, extreme shyness, anger, bullying, the death of a family member, behavior problems at home or in the classroom, and countless other reasons.
If I can be of help to your child and your family, please call me any time. By law, any information you share with me will be kept strictly confidential.
